Steps to Joy!!!

Illustration: A little girl asked her mother, "If God is bigger than us & He lives in us, wouldn't He show through?" Point!! If we're Christians, when people see us, Jesus ought to show through us.

That is exactly what God has always intended! In fact, back "In the beginning," in Genesis 1:26, the Bible tells us, "Then God said, 'Let us make man in our image, in our likeness ..." In other words, we were created to become like Jesus. From the very beginning, God's plan has been to make us like His Son. In all of creation, only human beings are made in God"s image, in His likeness.

2,000 years ago, Jesus stood on a mountainside near the Sea of Galilee. Thousands of people have come to listen to Him. And He delivers some of the most challenging statements we'll ever hear. They're recorded in Matthew 5:1-10, & we call them the Beatitudes. Four of them deal with matters that are internal, & four are external.

I. INTERNAL
1. "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven."
2. "Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted."
3. "Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth."
4. "Blessed are those who hunger & thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled."

II. EXTERNAL
5. "Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy."
6. "Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God."
7. "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God."
8. "Blessed are those who are persecuted..."

Illustration: There are 2 kinds of people: "thermostat" people & "thermometer" people. A thermometer reflects the climate of the room. If the room is cold, it's cold. If the room is hot, it's hot.
