O Lord We have come this morning to remember and in our remembering to seek your comfort and strength. We remember all those killed in battle throughout our nation’s history.
But we are appalled by the casualty lists from all those wars. We are surrounded by memorials of the revolutionary war, the war of 1812, the unbelievable bloodshed of the civil war, the first world war, and wars in which many of us have served. Absent from us are the casualties.
With us are the survivors of the Second world war, Korea (the forgotten war), Viet Nam, The Gulf War, Afghanistan, Iraq. Those we also honor.
May the men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country live forever in our memories.
And may we honor them by doing everything we can to protect freedom for future generations, whenever, and wherever, it is threatened. May God bless this congregation, our Armed Forces, and God bless America.
We also remember this day the saints from this congregation who have gone to their reward. They wore the armor of righteousness. They fought the good fight. They gave us this heritage. They help make this church what it is, a House of God in which the Children of God worship You.
Most of all, oh God, we remember the death and resurrection of our Savior, Jesus Christ. We take courage in the sure and certain hope of the resurrection and the knowledge that Christ has conquered sin and death. Amidst a history of war and rumors of war; amidst our experience of illness and accident; amidst all of life’s uncertainties we turn to you, for you are the rock of our salvation. Amen
